In this age of technology, we all use passwords daily. It seems that everything
we do from internet banking to email requires some form of password security.
The first step in safeguarding your privacy is to create strong and secure
passwords that are much more difficult for a potential predator to crack.
Here are some good rules to follow.
-
Never use the same password on numerous websites or accounts. A unique password
for each activity is always safer.
-
Frequently change your passwords. Setting a monthly reminder is a good way to
stay on top of this task.
-
Never reuse an old password, even for a different website or account.
-
Choose strong passwords. The longer the better, with a minimum of 8 characters
is our recommendation.
-
Never use personal information in your passwords. The following is a list of
commonly used bad or “weak” passwords.
-
Generic words (like password or secret) are always a bad idea. Yes, even when
spelled backwards. Did you know that hackers can use programs that will guess
every word in the dictionary (even spelled backwards) in every language.
